Two types of fluid flow are turbulent and laminar. Turbulent fluid flow problems require the use of empirical formulas based on experimental data. Laminar flow is more amenable to mathematical predictions, and there are many problems where this theory applies. Two areas of flow of fluids where laminar theory applies are thin films and capillary tubes.
