5. Limitations on Components and Joints

ASME B31.3 includes limitations on components and joints in the design chapter, Chapter II. These are contained in Part 3, Fluid Service Requirements for Piping Components, and Part 4, Fluid Service Requirements for Piping Joints. Many of these are restrictions for severe cyclic conditions. The present chapter combines the limitations with pressure design and other considerations on a component-by-component basis.
