The term ”Biofouling” expresses the growth of microorganisms, plants and algae that accumulate on the hull surface of ships with time. Biofouling leads to increased hydrodynamic drag leading to reduced flow performance and therefore to unnecessarily increased fuel consumption that can have a significant impact on the financial aspects associated with platform operations and maintenance.
