This chapter is about boiling of saturated liquids prior to critical heat flux (CHF). As vapor quality increases at a constant heat flux, heat transfer coefficient generally increases until a limit is reached when heat transfer coefficient begins to decrease. This is the CHF point. Beyond this point, the surface is partially in contact with liquid and partly with vapor. As the thermal conductivity of vapor is much less than that of liquid, heat transfer deteriorates. When quality reaches 100%, the entire surface is covered by vapor and heat transfer coefficient is that for forced convection vapor flow.
