23. Cell Phone’s Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Radiation Effects on Human Brain Tissue

Cell phones and digital cellular networks can produce high enough non-ionizing radio frequency electromagnetic radiation energy during long exposures, i.e. more than 1 hour, that can increase temperature of brain tissues high enough to affect the human nervous system. International guidelines allow a localized maximum exposure which is specified as 10 W/kg specific absorption rate (SAR), averaged over a 10-gram tissue for non-ionizing radio frequency electromagnetic radiation energy. See Ref. [18]. Radio frequency radiation includes radio waves and microwaves. In the new fifth generation (5G) wireless technology for cell phones and for digital cellular networks, electromagnetic radiation waves operate between 30 and 300 GHz frequency which can produce high radiation energy levels and damage human tissues.
