In 2020, World energy consumption is estimated to be about 167,786 TeraWh/year. Only 1.25% of this energy consumption, namely 2,093 TeraWh/year, will come from our Sun through photovoltaic (PV) panels. Projection of yearly World energy consumption to 2040 show not much increase from the 2020 consumption. However, by 2040, energy coming from our Sun increases eight-fold to 9.66% of World energy consumption to 16,747 TeraWh/year mostly replacing coal and oil. This bright future in solar radiation energy consumption makes everyone eager to learn about PV panel system design and optimization of solar radiation energy conversion into electrical energy. This optimization process starts with the knowledge of solar radiation energy available at a particular location and at a particular time on Earth.
