For those that heave never traveled internationally, lived in a multi-cultural family or have somehow averted meeting individuals from different cultures, this could be somewhat of a shock, but landmarks are not the only differences in foreign countries. By estimation, those that have lived in the US have lived, worked or discussed issues with those from another country. Whether the conversation went well or not depends on how much willingness both parties have to developing a deeper understanding of the cultural roots in each of the nations.
