The previous two chapters have focused on the injection molding process and its variants. While injection molding is the most versatile of all plastics fabrication processes used for making precision, submillimeter- to meter-size parts, it is not suited for very large parts for which the very high molding pressures require prohibitively expensive molding machines and molds. Although variants such as structural foam molding and gas injection molding overcome some of the limitations of the standard injection molding process, they too have limitations.
