As part of the initiative to establish a sustainable capability, the national Nuclear Forensic Laboratory Network needs to participate in both national and international exercises, including operational exercises geared towards laboratory network implementation. The operational exercise may be preceded by a series of lab inter-comparison studies focused on validating the technical aspects of the network’s analytical capabilities. These exercises should involve the end-user community, and should cover the entire “life cycle” of an event, from the incident itself to evidence collection, analysis, and data interpretation to assist the investigation. Other exercises may take the form of table-top or limited-scale, focused exercises.
