In a book entitled Wonders of the World, published in 1959, the British nuclear power plant at Calder Hall was listed as “one of the seven wonders of the modern world.” Although not the first nuclear energy reactor, it was the world’s first large-scale electric-generating station powered by atomic energy to supply power for industrial and domestic purposes.
