The fastest way to obtain a large operating range is with a good design, with a correct blade loading distribution providing a negative slope of the pressure rise curve. The outcome of different optimizations is illustrated in Figure 9.1 and shows that maximizing the operating range may be at the expense of a lower efficiency.
