This chapter will serve to introduce the reader to the concept of the geological model, explore the wealth of freely available spatial data, and demonstrate how Geomatics can be used to analyze geotechnical related data and visualize the results. The approaches and methodologies outlined in this chapter have been implemented on various pipeline projects in Canada and internationally. The lessons learned provide valuable insights into the important relationship between Geomatics and Geotechnical Engineering in the context of major, large-diameter pipeline projects.
