Environmental cracking (EC) threats can occur when a combination of metallurgical, mechanical, and environmental conditions combine. In the majority of cases, these are specific to an alloy/environment system, although not necessarily. The threats can be catastrophic and hence require extreme care in early design, joining, and installation of components and facilities.
