During any non-operating periods after initial hydrotest, boilers and related equipment must be laid up properly to avoid corrosion damage. Failure to do so will reduce their availability, reliability, increase maintenance costs, and eventually shorten their useful life. Severe corrosion could even lead to catastrophic failure.
