Most of the time it is argued surface nuclei only plays a minor role when it comes to the onset of cavitating flows. Experimental findings indicate diffusion-driven nucleation from surface nuclei is an important mechanism that needs to be considered in this regard as well. A physical model being experimentally validated is introduced to describe diffusion-driven nucleation in a cavitating flow.
