This chapter introduces the linear and angular momenta of particles and rigid bodies. It discusses the conditions under which they are conserved and illustrates their relationship with the impulse and angular impulse. The conservation of angular momentum is also used to derive Euler’s rotational equations. The concept of generalized momenta is presented and used to derive Hamilton’s canonical equations.
