In this chapter, a detailed design procedure for vaneless diffusers based on the design and analysis procedures of Aungier (1993a) is presented. The major component of this design system has already been reviewed in Chapter 5, i.e., the one-dimensional performance analysis for vaneless components. The present design procedure differs from the original reference in form, but not in substance. Aungier (1993a) uses a centrifugal compressor stage performance analysis and a manual procedure to develop the vaneless diffuser design. Subsequently, a more formal design procedure was formulated to apply this concept in a more systematic fashion.
