An entrepreneur's dream is to found a company that will become an icon of visibility to industry, commerce, and the general public, something like the general recognition of General Electric or Microsoft or Boeing as famous (some may say infamous) and successful companies. Of course that rarely happens; however, a startup company can become world class in its performance and reap generous profits for its owners. This doesn't happen in a vacuum. It comes about because the company's personnel understand world-class performance and how to achieve it. This book has been a treatise on world-class performance because an entrepreneur is forced to be at that level if she expects her company to be successful. I have outlined an approach of doing business based on the world-class model. Now I will cap off this entrepreneur's instruction guide by summarizing that performance ethos and hopefully pulling it all together in a manner that makes sense for the entrepreneur. I will return again to the 7 steps of the manufacturing system, which is the best model I know of for consciously approaching world-class status. Think of it as a model to focus on while implementing the techniques espoused in this book.
