DC motors are used extensively in many applications that require high starting torque such as cranes hoists, electric traction, etc. In order to control the speed of such drive system while maintaining the current at a limiting value, a fuzzy proportional plus integral speed and current controllers are designed. Simulink and dSPACE software packages are used to make the real-time implementation of controllers on real time devices like motors easy.
