112 Real-Time Intelligent Control of a DC Motor

DC motors are used extensively in many applications that require high starting torque such as cranes hoists, electric traction, etc. In order to control the speed of such drive system while maintaining the current at a limiting value, a fuzzy proportional plus integral speed and current controllers are designed. Simulink and dSPACE software packages are used to make the real-time implementation of controllers on real time devices like motors easy. The performance and optimal operation of devices are studied and evaluated. Using dSPACE software and DS1104 control board, the Simulink model of the DC motor is replaced with the actual motor for the real-time implementation. The ultimate goal was to control the real-time DC motor using the controllers designed in this research work.
