In order to store the solar energy efficiently, a latent heat storage heat exchanger (LHSHE) has been put forward. The LHSHE consists of a series of identical tubes embedded in the phase change material (PCM), hot water from the solar collector passes through the tubes and transfers the collecting heat to the PCM during charging mode, while the heat stored in the liquid PCM is then transferred to produce heating water during discharging mode. The numerical simulation is based on the enthalpy-porosity approach and energy equation considering the natural convection. The model is first validated by comparing the results of numerical simulation with the reference. Then a series of numerical simulations are conducted for different geometric and thermal parameters. Results show that natural convection has a significant on melting process, and by increasing fin thickness and tube wall temperature or decreasing tube pitch, melting time will be decreased.
