The compressor played an important role in a heat pump system. In order to study the operating characteristics of the R410a water source heat pump under different frequency, the experimental apparatus of a 3HP DC-invert high temperature heat pump (HTHP) was developed. The experimental study has been made in the frequency range of 90–120Hz, and the relationship between COP, heating capacity, compressor ratio and compressor frequency was obtained. The experimental result indicted that when the compressor was at high frequency, the HTHP system had a good heating capability that the hot water temperature raised over 40 °C in no less than 10 minutes. A maximum value of COP was found at 95 Hz, and the maximum compressor pressure ratio was 4.68.
