A numerical model was developed to predict the temperature changing of underground cable tunnel, which is subjected to dispersed heat from the power cable. The effect of tunnel depth as well as its diameter and the heat output from the cable is investigated using the proposed model. Obtained results show that heat load is the main factor resulting in temperature rising in tunnel. Increasing the tunnel diameter and cutting the depth can help dispersing heat though soil. A similarity experiment was designed and carried out to validate the numerical model by comparing their results, which confirmed the accuracy of the proposed model. Finally this paper predicts the temperature change of a tunnel in service according to the monitored current load.
