The purpose of this research was to develop a simplified dynamic simulation model that can predict indoor air temperature, wall surface temperatures, and the cooling capacity of a top insulated cooled ceiling (CC), etc, not only for natural convection condition but also for mixed convection condition. By analyzing heat exchange relations between the top insulated CC and other walls in a room, Jeong and Mumma's analytical panel model was modified and the term equivalent heat transfer coefficient of CC was presented. The dynamic simulation model was developed by integrating Jeong and Mumma's modified model with the energy balance equations of wall inner surfaces and the room energy balance equation. For a combined system of cooled ceiling and dedicated outdoor air system, the computer program base on the proposed model returns hourly cooling capacities of CC and hourly cooling loads removed by the ventilation air simultaneously. The predicted panel cooling capacities corresponded well with manufacturer's data and experimental results reported in the literature.
