Wuhan City located in hot-summer∕cold winter climate zone and it was one of the hottest places in China. The indoor environmental quality would be very worse if there were no cooling during summer and no heating during winter in the buildings. An investigation was carried in summer to study the application of solar energy and energy consumption in residential buildings in Wuhan. The results show that there were 354 families possessed of solar water-heater and the proportion was 25%. The maximum electric load occurred in July and the value was 16.7 Kwh. The residential electric load, especially air-conditioner load, was closed to outdoor air temperature and there were linear relationship in some temperature zone. More than 80% families turned on air conditioner when mean outdoor temperature reached 29.7°C.
