Wuhan City located in the central of China and its climate was hot summer and cold winter. Heat pumps were main equipment for heating or cooling in Wuhan City. A case study of application of the ground surface water source heat pump system (WSHPS) for a building in Wuhan City was carried out to analysis its economical efficiency. The BIN method was adopted to simulate the annual energy-consumption of WSHPS. Basing on the weather data of a standard year in Wuhan City, which derived from the data of the last 15 years, the data for the BIN method of annual and 8-hours system were calculated. The annual energy-consumption of a building in Wuhan City was obtained and compared with the partners of the air-source heat pump systems. Basing on the analysis of the WSHPS, the geological conditions and demand for the WSHPS were discussed. Furthermore, a criteria and the corresponding measurement of water treatment were proposed for the WSHPS.
The result showed that the WSHPS was an efficient and energy-conservation system. Compared with air-source heat pump system, the energy consumption of WSHPS was approximately less than 24.05% in summer and 18.29% in winter in Wuhan City. But application of WSHPS should according to the location condition in order to ensure its economic operations. WSHPS heating was more energy conservation in the northern cities, but it was not applicable for the coastal cities compared with other heating systems.
