Energy consumption in the buildings has accounted for 20%–40% of the total final energy consumption. HVAC energy consumption has accounted for 50% of the building consumption. The figure will continue to increase in the future due to the expansion of built area and associated energy needs (occupant comfort demands). For this reason, utilizing renewable energy in the building field is becoming increasingly important, especially for HVAC system. The advantages and disadvantages of each working pair used in the solar absorption refrigeration systems are analyzed in this paper. H2O-LiBr solar absorption refrigeration system is suitable for the air-conditioning purpose. The performance of the single-effect, double-effect and triple-effect H2O-LiBr solar absorption refrigeration system used for the building is evaluated. In order to reduce the energy consumption of HVAC system and preserve the environment, the single-effect and the double-effect H2O-LiBr solar absorption refrigeration system should be fully developed.
