Membrane distillation (MD) is a thermal driven evaporation process that involves a transport of water vapor through porous membrane. The driving force of the process is supplied by the vapor pressure difference between the two membrane sides. The solar driven MD process is a feasible technique for brackish water desalination. Combined solar photovoltaic and thermal tests with same solar radiation were performed on the PV panels. For the PV panel, used in the solar driven MD system, its output power will decrease with the increase of its temperature. In order to avoiding the decrease of output power, a heat exchanger is attached to the PV panel backside to decrease its temperature. So the comparable experiments were done for demonstrating its performance. The results show that when solar radiation and environmental temperature was the same, the output power of the single solar cell with heat exchanger increased almost 15% than the single solar cell.
