The mechanism of flow and heat transfer in air gap membrane distillation (AGMD) is studied in this paper. The velocity field and temperature field in the hot solution is simulated first. The simulation result indicated that polarization phenomenon in hot solution side is damaged and membrane flux is increased when using rotational and tangential inlet flow. The heat transfer method in the air gap can be considered as heat conductive as the air gap width is 1mm. But the laminar natural convective formed in the inlet of air gap and heat transfer will be enhanced in air gap. So the heat flux of air gap increased. The result of numerical simulation is good agreed with the experiment datum.
