Very fast transient overvoltage (VFTO) may cause damage to the insulation of electric equipments in gas insulated substations. It is generated by multi-reignitions between the contacts of disconnector, when the disconnector is closing or opening. So it is important to calculate the VFTOs caused by multi-reignitions of disconnector. In this paper, it is pointed out that there is a linear relationship between the VFTOs originated by the previous multi-reignitions when the disconnector is closing or the last multi-reignitions when the disconnector is opening. Combined this conclusion with the phenomenon of multi-reignitions, the VFTOs caused by multi-reignitions are calculated. Finally, the influence of voltage phase at which the disconnector begins to close or open to all amplitudes of all VFTOs caused by multi-reignitions is analyzed. It shows that there is a minimum value of the maximum amplitudes of VFTOs when the disconnector works at a correct range of voltage phase and when the disconnector closes under a condition that the residual voltage on no-load bus is close to 0.
