The objective of this chapter is to provide some highlights on the requirements, analysis, and issues related to the seismic protection of piping systems. Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 50 (10 CFR 50) Appendix A [1] contains General Design Criteria for Nuclear Power Plants. General Design Criterion 2, Design Bases for Protection Against Natural Phenomena under Group I of 10 CFR 50, mandates that structures, systems, and components (SSCs) important to safety shall be designed to withstand the effects of natural phenomena, such as earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, tsunami, and seiches, without loss of capability to perform their safety functions.
14.1 Introduction
14.2 Seismic Hazard
14.3 Seismic Analysis of Piping Systems
14.4 Seismic Anchor Motion (SAM) Analysis
14.5 Seismic II/I Piping System Protection
14.6 Seismic/Non-Seismic Interface
14.7 References
