The Babbitt Metal, which is commonly used in manufacturing bearing shells, belongs to the soft metal category. Ordinary processing operations on the Babbitt Metal, such as turning, grinding and lapping, cannot efficiently reach our requirements on the degree of surface roughness Ra0.1 ) of the bearing shell. This paper displays some analysis on the principles and approaches of the bearing shell scraping, hence providing a new way of thinking on the mirror face machining of soft metal materials.
