This paper has introduced the ultrasonic source applied in broken down operation. The twin pursuits of high-power and high-frequency are not always compatible objectives. To overcome these disadvantages, the ultrasonic source utilizes a cascaded multilevel inverter which is based on CPS-SPWM modulation. And the IGBT/MOSFET parallel switching is applied to reduce switch losses and improve the efficiency of the source. The paper analyzed the theory of cascaded multilevel inverter and the operating principle of parallel switching. The method is proved to be correct and feasible by simulation and experiment in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
