This paper uses the panel data of energy consumption(EC) and economic growth(GDP) for China from 1980 to 2008. The results show that there is a positive long-run cointegrated relationship between real GDP per capita and energy consumption variables, a 1% increase in GDP per capita leads to a 0.44–0.48% increase in energy consumption in the long term. So it is urgent to explore new and important ways to change the current economic growth pattern, develop low-carbon economy and circular economy actively.
