Packaging and handling of incense sticks, though a crucial time consuming phase of the assembly process has till date been a manual process with several failed attempts at automation. The variation in physical parameters due to hand rolling of incense sticks, and their flexibility with respect to shape integrity makes it challenging to device an efficient handling method.

However, this paper discusses the use of vacuum and pneumatics to handle incense sticks to overcome the above mentioned challenges. We also enumerate the design and construction of an automated Incense Stick Dispenser whose purpose is to separate and dispense a pre specified number of Incense Sticks, which when integrated with a Vertical Flow Wrap completely automates the a crucial stage of packaging.

The paper also sheds light on the transformation of our drawing board design into a working prototype. The constructed prototype after testing has yielded favorable results with it dispensing a fixed number of sticks almost every time.
