In recent time, advance techniques and robust design of underwater acoustic communication system are very appealing for the various applications related to exploration of sea and oceanic information exchange. The prime objective of these researches and developments are to establish standard, low complex and real-time underwater communication system having the capabilities to handle the extremely complex and continuously time varying nature of ocean. In last decade, various analytical and research work relevant to this field has been covered, major contribution of underwater acoustic communication has been carried out and many efficient methodologies and algorithms have been proposed. In terms of physical layer, coherent MIMO-OFDM systems consider as most appropriate method for efficient and high data rate communication within the extremely band limited and frequency selective underwater channel.
