Swing and short-circuit fault are different phenomena in power system. Relay protection devices needs to rapidly and accurately distinguish swing and fault in power system. I should be reliable locked by the relay protection before the relay malfunction which is caused by swing. While for the various types of faults in swings, the relay protection devices should accurately detect them in time, and quickly remove relevant faults to help the system running stably as soon as possible. In this paper, a new model, which is used to distinguish swing and fault, is proposed by monitoring the three-phase current of transformer substation based on wavelet. The Simulink simulation results show that the designed model can correctly and fast identify the power swings and faults. Moreover, compared with other current models, our model has high computing efficiency, less monitoring variable and more accurate decision mechanism; and its monitoring is in the real-time situation. The advantages of proposed model are reinforced by the simulation results.
