In order to reduce the defects existed in the work process of traditional valve, such as friction, corrosion, response delay and so on. A new hybrid-ER-valve was proposed, which could reach on-off function with the electrical properties of ER fluid. The hybrid-ER-valve's structure was designed, its working principle was analyzed, a prototype was produced and the relations under sited pressure between the flow and voltage and between flow and valve plate space was tested and analyzed. The results showed that, when a high voltage single was given, the new ER valve had a good on-off property and it would have a great practical value.
