91 Analysis of Failure and Reliability for Constant Speed and Constant Pitch Wind Turbine

The major factor that has accelerated the wind-power technology development is improved plant operation. In order to increase the life of a wind turbine, it is important to estimate the reliability level for all components in the wind turbine. On a size scale, large-scale wind generators have been generally considered to be more efficient, have to contend with large failures due to the presence of complex parts. In the wind power industry, the failures, their causes and effects are recorded periodically. The issue of reliability becomes more critical since the complexity in mechanisms like pitch control, yaw control, hydraulic system electrical and electronics control, braking system, grid availability, sensors and other components. The failures and downtimes for the wind turbines give some figures about reliability of wind turbines onshore placed at Muppandal in India is analyzed using Weibull software as reliability tool.
