Providing high performance security in a cloud environment needs more than user authentication using schemes like digital certification such as passwords. It is necessary to have significant control over the running tasks in cloud to determine iniquitous which exist in it and also detecting and preventing malicious users who try to break security policies. In addition, have control over security policies is require to increase possibility in rapid detection of known attacks. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) are two areas that are becoming popular in securing cloud computing environments. Because of cloud is an environment which is highly distributed, traditional intrusion detection techniques has not significant performance for ensuring security in it and needs improvement for a certainty. This paper tries to discuss the importance of intrusion detection systems in a cloud environment and reviewed and explained performance issues of each of intrusion detection techniques in cloud environments.
