The Camshift algorithm fails easily when the tracking object was occluded by other faces. To overcome this shortcoming, a feature point based face tracking algorithm is proposed. The feature points of the target are extracted as the characteristic by the SURF operator and the occurrence of occlusion is detected through the changes of the tracking window. When the target gets lost, it is searched by the face detect algorithm and the feature points matching method. Experimental results shown that the proposed algorithm can solve the occlusion problem preferably.
