This chapter provides an introduction and overview of Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS). Current traditional surfactant and ventilation therapies are described, along with more current techniques that use pressure oscillations. In particular, the Bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) system is elaborated on, along with clinical studies from the literature that outline the benefits of its use to treat RDS.
