Based on the Lower Yellow River health assessment as an example, the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is introduced in this paper for the river health assessment, using the improved analytical hierarchy process to determine the relevant weight, with weighted average method of the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation results to facilitate comparisons between different reaches of the same river and among different rivers. Meanwhile, the evaluation results of different models are compared and verified with the actual condition of the Lower Yellow River, concluding that fuzzy comprehensive evaluation can accurately reflect the health status of the Lower Yellow River. The mode V is optimal since it can effectively reflect the changing trend and extent of the river health which are in good accordance with the actual situation.
