A strain WGP35 was isolated from rice paddy, could use methanol as sole carbon and energy sources. Clonies were round, milky white, opaque, and neatly-edges, this organism was found to be a rod-shaped, Gram-negative, flagella-forming organism with an optimum growth temperature of 28°C and an optimum pH between 7.0 and 8.0.The culture could grow on the methanol medium with high concentration glycine (50 mg/mL). Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rDNA gene sequence indicated that strain WGP35 represented a species of the genus Pseudomonas (99% similarity to Pseudomonas sp.BSW1004N), with the results of BIOLOG EcoPlates analysis, the name Pseudomonas sp.WGP35 is proposed.
