The analysis of rectangular plates having concentrated loads, free edges, or column supports is exceedingly complicated when using the classical theory discussed in Chapters 7 and 8. Similar difficulty is encountered in circular plates with concentrated loads as well as triangular plates with various loading and boundary conditions. The analysis commonly used to solve such cases is based on the plastic yield line theory, which is discussed in this chapter.
