The effect of nano-sized TiC precipitates on the resistance of high-strength tempered lath martensitic steels to hydrogen embrittlement has been studied. Ti-added steels showed a higher resistance to hydrogen embrittlement than baseline steels when thermally precharged with hydrogen under a pressure of 31 MPa. When precharged in 138 MPa, however, the resistance of these two steels to hydrogen embrittlement was almost the same. The hydrogen charged baseline steels showed a mixed fracture surface of intergranular and “quasi-cleavage.” In contrast, the Ti-added steels revealed a mixed fracture of “quasi-cleavage” and ductile microvoid coalescence with the presence of hydrogen.
