Queuing is a useful and widely applicable study. Although presented here as a classic number of checkout lanes in a store, it is fundamental to logistics as in elevator management, traffic light control, supply chain design, student–teacher specification, and many similar work-process situations. Since the concepts of queuing and standing in checkout lines at a store are familiar to most, it represents a classic archetypical exercise.
