To accurately locate the focal plane of the object in digital holography, the constrained least squares filter is introduced for digital holography which can effectively eliminate the noise on the focal plane determination. It not only overcomes the difficulties of common filters but also improves image’s visibility and perceptibility. The experiment results demonstrate this filter is an effective tool for improving the precision of focal plane location in digital holography.
