The aim of this paper is to explore the challenges in cross-platform development on mobile devices. In particular, the paper focusses on describing a framework for delivering e-magazine content across iOS and Android platforms. The framework is based on a novel XML-based notation for organising digital magazine content that contains rich media and interactive content. In order to assess the potential for this framework, an existing iPad magazine application is compared to an equivalent implementation using only XML definitions in the proposed framework and the advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
