16 Two-Dimension Simulation of a Red Blood Cell Partitioning in Microvascular Bifurcation

A two-dimensional model based on the elastic and Euler-Bernoulli beam theory is proposed to simulate the behaviors of a red blood cell (RBC) crossing a microvascular bifurcation. The fluid dynamics is obtained by solving the discrete lattice Boltzmann equation. Simulations have exhibited the RBC configuration evolution in the asymmetrical flow assignation between the two downstream branches. The simulation results are found quite consistent to the experimental observations and computational results reported in other researches.
