Based on the regular pattern analysis of the equipment faults, the failure characteristics of the highway electrical and mechanical equipments are studied at the beginning. According to the bathtub curve, the types and causes of electrical and mechanical equipment failures are described in categories. Because the relationship between the equipment availability, maintenance costs and the maintenance cycle is the unity of opposites, optimal maintenance cycle is determined by multi-objective fuzzy optimization model, in view of the principle of maximum system availability and minimum total costs.
